The Omeo Highway runs down the eastern side of the Victorian Alps from Wadonga in the north to Omeo in the south. The highway for a good portion of it's length is gravel. Being part of the Alpine National Park it can get very cold and even covered in snow in winter. Along it's length are several camping areas. Big River Camping area being one of them. This camping area is set in a picturesque area alongside Big River itself. This is a fine trout stream and just looking at these photos will want you to head off there
Campervans set up alongside the river
There's trout in that there stream
As with all camping areas. The signs are there to protect and should be obeyed
Shady areas for summer and sunny open areas for winter. Can it get any better
Good fireplaces are provided
Toilets are basic but clean
Anglers Rest Camping Area is alongside of the Omeo Highway between Mitta Mitta and Omeo. It is a lovely camping area sitting on the banks of the Big River further downstream from the Big River Camping Area. This is all trout water and very good angling
Fireplaces and park benches and seating are set out across the camping area
Once again there are trout in those there waters
Composting toilets are becoming very popular in National Parks across the country
Typical alpine country
