GOOMBURRA STATE FOREST PARK

Poplar Flat Camping Area is part of Goomburra Sate Forest Park on the banks of Dalrymple Creek.  This is a popular camping area and only a maximum of 100 camps are allowed at any one time.

How to get there

Located about 175km southwest of Brisbane, Goomburra can be accessed from both the New England and Cunningham Highways. Turn off the New England Highway 3km south of Allora onto the Inverramsay Road. Follow the Inverramsay Road, then Forestry Reserve Road east about 35km to the park boundary.

From the Cunningham Highway at Gladfield 25km west of Cunningham's Gap or 13km east of the Cunningham and New England highway junction, turn north and travel 8km to join Inverramsay Road. Follow the Inverramsay Road, then Forestry Reserve Road to the park boundary. The last 6km of road to the park is unsealed and may be closed after heavy rain.

Facilities

This is a quiet area with grassy campsites set amongst tall shady trees.  Water is available with taps set throughout the area however it is recommended that you take your own drinking water.  Barbecue pits are numerous however you may have to share.  Please bring your own firewood.  Both male and female disabled friendly composting toilets are available

What to do

Like all bush camping places this one has the lot with bush walking and bird and animal watching being exceptional.  The EPA state, "The park's numerous habitats provide homes for over 59 mammal, 204 bird, 54 reptile and 31 frog species as well as countless insects and other invertebrates. As many as 12 species of animals are regarded as rare, while the eastern bristlebird and Coxen's fig parrot are endangered. Many animals are considered vulnerable."
