If you are looking for a great free camping place just outside Wagga Wagga in New South Wales the Oura Beach Camping Reserve is the place for you. Situated on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River near Oura the reserve has to be one of the best on the Riverina. Murray Cod, Yellow Belly and the magnificent Murray Cray can all but be caught from the banks beside your campsite. Yes, the reserve even has a beach as can be seen in the photo above
How To Get There
Travel through North Wagga Wagga then follow Oura Road for about 18 kilometres. The last two kilometres are gravel and there are good signs along the way.
Facilities
Like all free camping areas, facilities are limited. The reserve does however boast a new disabled friendly composting toilet. There is no water or firewood however fallen branches from the many riverside gums were plentiful when I visited. Limited barbecues are spread throughout the area and there are some shelter sheds.
What To Do
This is one of those places where there is nothing to do but relax, read a book while appreciating the outdoors, catch a fish or two or maybe go for a dip in the river. Just be mindful of closed seasons on fishing
